When and where is the IPL 2027 auction?
The auction will take place in Goa on December 16. The BCCI reiterated both details in its November 2 communication to franchises. Earlier reporting identified ITC Grand Goa and a December 15 briefing; the auction’s start time has not been announced.
Why Was Goa Chosen for the Auction?
IPL officials wanted to bring the auction back to India, but accommodation was a major concern during the busy December wedding season. Franchise owners, coaches, analysts and support staff create a large room requirement even for a one-day auction.
Goa gives the BCCI a domestic location with the hotel and event infrastructure needed for all ten franchise delegations. The smaller scale of a mini auction also makes the event easier to stage in India than a two-day mega auction involving a much larger player pool.
Is IPL 2027 a Mega Auction or Mini Auction?
IPL 2027 will have a mini auction. Existing teams will keep most of their contracted players rather than reduce their squads to a small mega-auction retention group.
Each franchise will review its current squad, complete any permitted trades, release players it no longer needs and bid for specific vacancies. One team may need an overseas opener, another may target an Indian fast bowler, while a settled squad may enter with only a few open places.
The event is expected to finish in one day because the available player pool and number of open slots will be smaller than at a mega auction.
IPL 2027 auction calendar: registration to bidding
| Stage | Date | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Registration opens | November 2, 2026 | Eligible players begin the registration process |
| Retentions and releases due | November 17 | Franchises submit their contract decisions |
| Registration closes | November 23 | The initial registration window ends |
| Franchise choices due | December 1 | Teams submit their requested auction selections |
| Final register and sets scheduled | December 3 | The auction list and player grouping become clear |
| Mini auction | December 16 | Franchises bid for shortlisted players in Goa |
These stages answer different questions. A registered player is not automatically shortlisted, and a shortlisted player is not automatically sold. A released player must meet the registration and auction requirements before bidding can take place.
IPL 2027 Retained and Released Players
The IPL 2027 retention deadline is November 17, 2026. The BCCI extended the original November 15 deadline by two days through a communication to franchises on November 2.
All 10 teams must finalise which contracted players they will retain and release before the December mini auction. The extension has been linked to India’s fifth ODI against New Zealand, scheduled for November 15.
The complete team-wise retention lists have not yet been announced. Once submitted, they will help determine the available auction purses, overseas vacancies and squad positions.
Follow the IPL 2027 retention deadline updates and released players list for the latest confirmed information.
| Player status | Meaning before the auction |
|---|---|
| Retained | The player remains with the same franchise under the applicable contract terms. |
| Released | The existing franchise removes the player from its squad. The player can enter the auction if eligible, registered and shortlisted. |
| Traded | The player moves to another franchise through an approved transaction before the auction. |
| Temporary replacement | The player covered an unavailable squad member during IPL 2026. That short-term place does not automatically become a 2027 contract. |
Franchises must submit their retention and release decisions by November 17. The complete team-wise lists and auction purse balances are still awaited. The submission deadline does not confirm the exact time when every franchise’s public announcement will appear. See the released players tracker for team decisions and the squads page for the resulting player lists.
IPL 2027 Team Purse: Why Exact Values Are Not Available Yet
No reliable team-wise IPL 2027 purse table can be produced until the retention, release and trade accounting is complete. Each franchise will enter the auction with a different amount because existing contracts already consume part of its available spending limit.
The official IPL Player Regulations for 2025 to 2027 state that the total salary cap reaches ₹157 crore in 2027. This figure includes the auction purse, incremental performance pay and match fees. It does not mean every team will have ₹157 crore available to spend in Goa.
An accurate purse calculation needs four inputs:
- Money committed to retained player contracts
- League fees added or removed through trades
- Contract value returned through player releases
- Any new purse adjustment announced by the IPL
Until these figures are published, claims that a particular franchise has the largest IPL 2027 purse remain estimates.
How the CSK-SRH trade changes contract commitments
CSK’s incoming fees total ₹9 crore, compared with ₹6.8 crore for the two outgoing players. SRH exchange ₹16 crore in outgoing commitments for ₹6.8 crore incoming.
| Team | Outgoing contract commitments | Incoming contract commitments | Net change in commitments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chennai Super Kings | ₹6.8 crore | ₹9 crore | Increase of ₹2.2 crore |
| Sunrisers Hyderabad | ₹16 crore | ₹6.8 crore | Reduction of ₹9.2 crore |
This comparison covers the four traded players only. It is not either franchise’s final auction purse, which also depends on retained contracts, releases and the applicable auction accounting.
Confirmed IPL 2027 Trades Before the Auction
Eight players have changed franchises through three completed exchange deals ahead of IPL 2027. The latest agreement is the four-player trade between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, confirmed on November 5.
| Player | Previous team | New team | Announced league fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rishabh Pant | Lucknow Super Giants | Delhi Capitals | ₹15 crore |
| Kuldeep Yadav | Delhi Capitals | Lucknow Super Giants | ₹13.50 crore |
| T Natarajan | Delhi Capitals | Sunrisers Hyderabad | ₹5 crore |
| Zeeshan Ansari | Sunrisers Hyderabad | Delhi Capitals | ₹40 lakh |
| Liam Livingstone | Sunrisers Hyderabad | Chennai Super Kings | ₹6 crore |
| Jack Edwards | Sunrisers Hyderabad | Chennai Super Kings | ₹3 crore |
| Khaleel Ahmed | Chennai Super Kings | Sunrisers Hyderabad | ₹4.8 crore |
| Nathan Ellis | Chennai Super Kings | Sunrisers Hyderabad | ₹2 crore |
The official IPL announcement confirms Livingstone’s reduced fee and the existing fees of Edwards, Khaleel and Ellis. These figures are player league fees, not additional transfer payments between franchises.
CSK gain two overseas all-round options but lose two specialist pace options. SRH add Khaleel and Ellis after Natarajan’s earlier arrival, while Livingstone and Edwards leave their overseas player group.
These players have moved directly between franchises through completed trades. They have not been released into the auction pool. The trade tracker follows completed transfers, while the updated squads show each team’s player pool.
When Will the IPL 2027 Auction Player List Be Released?
The final IPL 2027 auction register, including player sets, is scheduled for December 3. Registration opened on November 2 and closes on November 23, with franchises submitting their player choices by December 1.
No final shortlist or sold-player list is available yet. Registration totals, shortlist totals and the number of successful purchases will be separate figures.
Current IPL Squad Limits
Under the current squad framework, each franchise can have a maximum of 25 players, including up to eight overseas players. The pre-auction list will show total open places and overseas slots for every team.
Money alone does not decide what a franchise can buy. A team may have enough purse for several signings but only one overseas place remaining. Another may need Indian players to reach a balanced squad while its overseas allocation is already full.
Impact Player Rule and Auction Planning
The published IPL Player Regulations 2025 to 2027 state that the Impact Player rule continues through the current cycle. Reports have also said the Governing Council discussed the rule again.
No replacement regulation has been published, so the existing rule remains the official reference. Any later change could affect how teams value specialist batters, bowlers and multi-skilled players at the auction.
Where Can Fans Watch the IPL 2027 Auction?
The auction’s television channel, streaming platform and start time have not been announced. Previous broadcast arrangements do not confirm where the Goa event will be shown.
Broadcast information normally arrives closer to the auction date. The IPL 2027 teams page can then connect each franchise with its purse, available slots and completed purchases.
